Writer seeks company
You are not ALONE
Do you day-dream about writing that story? You have a big idea yet feel that people may laugh at you if you tell them want you really want to do with your life? Have you read every how to book on the subject of writing? Enrolled in online courses, read multiple well-meaning blogs on how easy it is to get published? Me too.
If you knocked down the first brick wall and are now bravely writing. How is it going? Do you stick to a schedule or has the dreaded claws of self-doubt stopped you in your tracks? Falling deeper into a dark hole filled with the muck and nonsense of the non-believers. We all have to start somewhere, lacking the confidence to share your work with the world will not get your dreams off the ground. Vulnerability isn’t something I enjoy, yet it is how we learn by sharing our dreams with a trusted few.
Remember you are not alone, there are thousands of us out there. I am working hard to finish my first novel. I know it is not perfect, yet how else will I learn? I start, I stop, I read and I research, most of all I keep going. The mucky hole gets smaller some days and on others it opens wide and I stumble and fall.
When it all gets too much I put everything in perspective, if I give up now what would be the point of all those hours creating and editing my work. The only person I would disappoint is myself. Ask the question why are you putting yourself through this kind of torture? For me I enjoy writing, simple but true. Nobody else cares if I finish or not, except maybe my husband and my family. So why do I keep going? Why do you? I would like to know. I would like to reach out to those at the same stage of their writing life who need some inspiration to keep going. I would love to meet a circle of writers who are working towards getting their first novel published we could learn create and share together.
I went to a creative writing workshop the other day and the thing that struck me the most out of everything I learned, was that feeling of connection, I was around people just like me. Sharing your work is scary yet it is amazing how quickly another pair of eyes can see something in your piece that you may have missed.
