Picture book prompt from last week…..a parrot who gets in trouble for repeating things.
I scratched up this image so you could imagine my characters to go with the words.
Eddie was the happiest bird in the world.
He lived in a house with Charlotte and Ellie, who played with him every day.
They loved to watch him dance.
They loved to watch him sing and they especially loved to hear him talk.
“C’mon Eddie, do you want a tickle?” said Charlotte.
“Who wants a tickle?” Eddie said. “Smickle, ickle, tickle.” The girls never grew tired of his silly talk.
“You are the funniest parrot in the world.” Said Ellie.
“Yes, and the cleverest too.” Added Charlotte, the girls would giggle and tickle him under his wings.
Eddie knew how lucky he was, the children invited him to their extravagant tea parties and crazy dress ups.
They read him stories at bedtime.
When their friends came over he put on a show.
Who wants a tickle?” asked Eddie, “Smickle, ickle, tickle.” He said.
“Say it again Eddie, say it again.” He said it, over and over, all the children laughed.
“You are so lucky, you have the best pet in the world.” Said the friends.
One day Charlotte and Ellie received a surprise. Eddie watched them take a fluffy grey ball of fur out of a box, they called it Kitty. Eddie liked Kitty, but Kitty did not like Eddie.
Kitty had no tricks, thought Eddie all she could say was MeOW.
Charlotte and Ellie forgot all about Eddie.
He decided to dance, sing and talk all at once to get their attention.
The kitten ran away.
“No more talking, you talk too much Eddie and you scared the kitten away.”
“Lets go look for Kitty.” Said Ellie in a huff.
Eddie hung his head he did not feel like dancing anymore or repeating his stupid words. The girls went looking for Kitty.
“Meow meow.” They both said.
Eddie decided to help and flew into the garden. He rose high up into the gum trees to get a better look, no Kitty anywhere. He heard a strange noise, a giant dark shadow swooped down on him, it flew straight towards him. Eddie screeched but no body heard him, the shadow passed by and Eddie landed on a branch and caught his breath.
“ MeOW, MeOW.” He heard the kitten’s soft cry it was hiding in the back yard, the shadow grew closer, he had to think fast.
“MeOW, MeOW.” Copied Eddie, the shadow diverted and turned to chase him. Eddie kept meowing and the giant monster followed higher and higher.
“Eddie come down at once”
“Shoo you big bad eagle!” Said Charlotte the giant bird flew off after hearing the girls scream and shout. Eddie flew down into the back yard.
“Its no good Charlotte I can’t find Kitty anywhere.
“MeOW, MeOW.” Said Eddie
“Ellie, Eddie can speak cat too.”
“MeOW.” Came a softer cry.
“Its Kitty, you found kitty Eddie.”
“You are the smartest bird in the world.”
“MeOW, meOW.” said Eddie he did not care if the girls played with kitty anymore. The kitten followed him everywhere.
My daughter enjoyed all the prompts, but she liked the idea of a parrot that repeated itself too much, the most.
A parrot flew on to my arm from the roof one day when we first moved to the farm. A beautiful Eclectus Parrot with long sharp talons I might add. It was a bizarre experience this creature wanting some attention, it was obviously lost. The eagles in the area attacked it every time it went for a fly around, we decided it needed to be given to someone who could take good care of it.
I hope you enjoyed this mad idea, I did.
I would like to thank Sheila and all of you who participated, I had so much fun creating this rough draft from Sheila’s prompt ……please check out Sheila’s space she is a must read and I find her posts uplifting visually and mentally.
Happy days to all back to my WIP folks.
