Admiration and Appreciation

dsc_0562-copyINSPIRATION, ADMIRATION and APPRECIATION

It has to be said that if it wasn’t for my husband Peter’s wonderful photography I would not have anything to sketch.

So before I take my leave to the city of Canberra, hopefuly a weekend jam-packed with family fun. Like a visit to Questacon, to check out a Spider Exhibition (Eeek! kids choice! Due to a live huntsman colony on show) Of course then to my favourite, a Bird Aviary. Also to the Old Bus Depot Markets for a shopping spree, yay we love shopping.

So before I leave I wanted to share my better half’s photo’s.

I imagine we will have plenty more after we visit the Canberra bird aviary.

Peter and I take our camera’s at every opportunity, but somehow he captures the better photo. Neither of us have much of an idea on the technical side of things, well he may know a bit more than me. I’m a point and shoot kinda gal (keep it simple) and Pete well as you can see he has a flare for capturing much more than most amateur photographers. Keep and eye out for the four legged gull (I kid you not!)

We enjoy a healthy competition to see who can get the best capture of the day. He beats me every time. And so I usually end up using his photo’s for my art.

How could I not.

Enjoy the many beautiful images from the birds, farm life and of course the cows.

My dream when we retire is to go on a birdy-bucket-list tour. First around Australia and see all the birds that are not in our state. Then a bird tour in the United States one day to see the hummingbird. Yes I will die happy if I get to see one in the wild.

Birds have become a big part of our life, and I hope to join a local bird watching group when I get some time. Enjoy the slideshow of some of Pete’s stunning bird captures.

This post is to say thanks to my Husband for forever surprising and inspiring me, as you can see from the photos and my art below. They are perfection and I hardly do them justice.

Sometimes I think I should not try, yet something stirs the creative soul when I look upon them and I have to create.

I will leave you with one of my favourite cat portraits of Apple the cat. I could imagine this one on a giant canvas, one day I will get around to it.

Thanks for stopping by I would like to know where your inspiration comes from when you create?

  1. These are lovely, Kath! I, of course, am partial to all of the cow photos. You’ll find this entertaining…I went on a girls weekend to the coast. I had never traveled with my friend before, and while I was getting excited about the cows and horses, she was like: Wow, you’re REALLY into farm animals, aren’t you?

Mind you, she’s an animal lover. But, I guess not a “farm” animal crazy woman like me. 😉

    • Hey Britt from an early age my sister collected black and white cows, she had an obsession. Living on the dairy gives me a huge appreciation of them they are quite calming when I sit on my deck and watch them meander by. They are also very curious animals and love checking out the cats or watching the kids on the trampoline. I wonder if they are dreaming of having a go when no one is around. There goes that picture book mind again!

  2. Luanne says:

How beautiful! These are stunning. Gosh, the cow photos make re love cows all over again! Birds, too!

  3. Sheila says:

Wow – those are great – I can see why they inspire you. I love the look on the cow’s face as if she’s trying to figure your husband out. I’ve never seen a four-legged gull either. Of course you do them all justice. Your artwork is special because the personalities of the animals or birds come through in a way that can’t usually be shown in photographs.

  4. Val Boyko says:

A mooo-ving and beautiful post Kath! I love both bird photos and paintings equally 💛
I hope you have had fun on your family trip! xo

  5. A lot of talent in your household, Kath ~ your husband’s photos and your artwork are divine. Canberra is such a wonderfully varied place from a nature standpoint. I have a friend who lives there in OZ with you – do you know her? Denise of Sutherland Studios

  6. Beautiful art and photos! Always feel peaceful and inspired when I stop by here, Kath. 🙂

  7. Inger says:

I think both your husbands photos and your drawings are great! And I have to say, that cow photo angled somewhat from below with the blue sky in the back is awesome, I really loved it! 🙂

    • Thanks Inger that cow is called Baby, she had an accident and got caught in the fence when she was a calf. The owners said we could keep her in the herd as a pet. Im thinking I might have a go at painting that image too.

  8. Jill Kuhn says:

Your bird paintings are AMAZING!!! So beaUtiFUL Kath!! You are lucky to have a hubby who takes such awesome photos!! 💕😍🎨👍 I think you can paint anything – cows, birds, cats…
    🐄🐦🐱🐾

  9. Wow! What beautiful photos! Pete certainly is a very talented photographer! Love your artwork too! Hope you had a great time in Canberra xxx

  10. Kath, you both are spectacular at what you do. These are wonderful photographs and artwork.
    Blessings ~ Wendy

  11. Cecilia says:

Once again, what amazing photos! I just love looking through them. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a great time!

  12. reocochran says:

Kath, the cows are beautiful, horses elegant and the pretty birds are really special. Having birds to draw makes me happy, too. 🙂

  13. Aquileana says:

Wonderful Kath… such realism and details in your paintings-drawings… truly like them!.
Sending you all my best wishes!. Aquileana😀

  14. Elizabeth says:

Hi Kath, gorgeous photos and art. I love to watch birds too, it’s relaxing. I like the cat photo at the end, but I’m sure the birds don’t. 🙂

    • Elizabeth my biggest problem, I love birds and cats, so we don’t encourage the birds near the house with bird bath, feeders etc, mostly my cats have bells and are kept inside until morning. But Apple is cunning and gets his collar off. Have a great day. We encourage the Magpies, the cats know better than to chase them.

  15. reocochran says:

Hi, Kath. I was going to reply to my first comment but know from experience this throws the “comments chain” out of synch.
Anyway, the pretty pink spring flowers and gray, white and yellow bird drawing is such a soft beautiful one!
I love birds and have only painted a pair of young cardinals for my Mom’s 85th birthday (3 years ago!) I posted it on my blog before.
Your husband’s photos are lovely, too. The cows are ones with their big eyes with eyelashes always pull on my heart. ❤ The young ones on the trough are so-o cute!

  16. Christy B says:

All so lovely! I particularly like the cow photos 🙂

  17. Rowena says:

Ditto to all the previous comments. You and your husband sound like a great team. My husband has his 50th birthday next weekend and thank goodness he’s very understanding and doesn’t need a big party because it’s not a good time of year for organising that. His sister is coming down from Byron and we’re having dinner with her, his niece and my parents and heading to the beach the next day. We’ll do something more after Christmas.
Have a great time in Canberra. My son would love that spider exhibition.
    Take care!
    xx Ro
